December 23, 2005i just handled the Nikon d50 for the first time at costco...i was a little surprised at how tiny it was. Probably great for a trip, but at the same time i think it's easier to steady a bigger camera, especially when i have some bigger lenses and the flash on there. Eck02s right about the D200 coming out, which will be 10 MP, has a pretty rugged body, and will be very fairly priced at 1599-1699 so they say. Just like all these electronic gadgets though, everything keeps getting better and you're outdated within a few years.

This is the reason I went with the D70 over the D50 and Rebel XT (it about the same size as the D50) The weight and size just didn't feel right to me.

Very true...but with any of the above mentioned cameras they will out last any regular digital camera available, plus with better lenses they can even produce better pictures down the road.
December 24, 2005Good points, melncal, especially the last one...some of the best film cameras out there are the old ones. I'm still learning to take better pics with my old D100. There is definitely a learning curve with these cameras, but they all will produce good results in the right hands. Ceo, did you pull the trigger yet? Merry xmas! brian
December 26, 2005Not yet. I'm waiting for the after Christmas sale. ;o) I think I've narrowed it down to BH photo. As far as the camera, I've tossed out the Rebel.
December 26, 2005CEO,
Have you narrowed it down to which camera yet?
You might want to try onecall.com too ( http://www.onecall.com/ProductSearch.aspx?sHist=12-891&showAdvanced=true ) They are an authorized retailer, have great prices and also offer 12 months differed payment. They also price match from other authorized online stores.
I've bought both my camcorder and camera from them and highly recommend them.
Good luck on the quest!
December 26, 2005I've also purchase AV equip from onecall.com and got very good service. they actually called me to see if i had received my packages, needed any help setting it up, and asked for feedback. maybe they were bored that day, but i like that type of customer service. good luck, brian
November 3, 2006I have only used the rebel but I thought it was fantastic. Let us know what you end up getting. By the way Mel, those are some fantastic shots you posted.
November 3, 2006one of the best sites I have found for comparing camers is steves-digicams.com He literally has tested every camera out there. I will have to say of the ones you listed I like the digi Rebel but I also feel that it is somewhat of a beginners SLR Digicam.
